Where Does the Time Go?

Cristina Kane, Fuel Sales Administrator for MercFuel, is a bit surprised when realizing she’s been with the company for almost 35 years.

“Time goes so fast!” says Cristina.

And she’s enjoyed every minute of her time with the company. She was originally hired through a temp agency to do basic administrative tasks and discovered that she had become part of a family.

“When I first started, there was an inside joke about ‘we’re here until we find something better’ and no one ever finding something better. We never looked since we were happy exactly where we were.”

Cristina was a single mom of young kids, and she gives credit to everyone she works with for looking out for her family and allowing her the freedom to take time to be a mom and always be there for her kids. The Mercury family became part of her family.

And nothing’s changed. When she got married and knew she’d be leaving the state in 2005, she thought she’d need to quit her job. But management allowed her to work from home so she could keep her job.

“When I’m in town, I spend time catching up with Joe; he makes the time. All the employees know each other, check in with each other, watch our kids grow up. I love the friendships, teamwork, and openness to learning new things.”

Cristina spends her day doing billing, pricing, helping Rob Whitworth and customers, and investigating disputes. If she doesn’t have the answer to something, she always says “I’ll find out.” She is bilingual in Spanish and uses this to talk with FBOs on the international side or read emails sent in Spanish.

“I know a little about a lot!”

Her spare time is spent with family. Her husband and she combined have seven adult children and twenty grandchildren, one of whom lives with them. They travel out of state often to see the other grandchildren’s sporting and other events. And she loves to have some quiet time with her husband.
