Kathy Caplinger's 23 Year Tenure with Mercury

Mercury Air GroupKathy Caplinger enjoys working with the company and her co-workers so much she has remained with the company for 23 years! She was willing to commute long hours until moving closer to the office and continues to love working for Mercury Aviation Companies, even after all of these years.

“It’s like a family here – what a great place to work. We come to work here, we stay, and we don’t leave.” says Kathy.

The family atmosphere leads to a supportive environment for work-life balance that Kathy appreciates. Post-pandemic, her granddaughter didn’t have access to after-school care in San Diego. Kathy was able to work remotely part of the week so that she could pick up her granddaughter from school and spend quality one-on-one time with her.

“That’s a special opportunity I wouldn’t have had elsewhere.”

She also remembers when she was undergoing medical treatment in 2016 and she expressed gratitude for the company’s insurance and flexibility, Joe told her “That’s what you do for family.”

Kathy was promoted to Mercury Aviation Companies’ Controller in July 2015, and before that had spent 14 years with the company as the Accounting Manager. She said that much of the work she does daily includes tasks she has been doing for years: things like account reconciliation, administration for the company's financial system and being the backup for the payroll, accounts payable many of the other departments within the Mercury corporate group.

"I've just always loved playing with numbers," Kathy said. "I like software - getting it to do what I need it to do…there's a satisfaction in getting things to balance," she said.

In her spare time, Kathy enjoys reading, going to the movies, and spending time with family and friends. She has two granddaughters – five and seven.

“We just finished up this year’s Girl Scout Cookie sales for my granddaughter, and had great support here in the office.”
